Not if you can configure it _for_ your hardware ok.  That can be a bit of a 
chore the first time, but gets easier over time.  I have rarely run the stock 
supplied kernel for more than 2-3 days after a system upgrade, preferring to 
run a bit closer to the "Oops, there be blood" kernels, currently running a 
2.6.22-rc6-cfs-v18 kernel here that I just rebuilt again with a small patch 
for the Future Domain Tech usb-serial adaptors to see if it fixes a little 
nag in how heyu runs here.

They may well, but I've yet to encounter a _real_ problem here because of 
that, and I've been running bleeding edge home built kernels for 8 or 9 years 
now.
