Even with the DVD installation, you'd still have to hop on the internet
to see what else is available.  I don't know what's on the 11-CD set,
but the DVD is definitely only a portion of what's available.

For that sort of reason, I can imagine update installs to be an exercise
in punishment.  You'd try to update some things that'd require the
update of some others, but there'd be nothing to hand to do so (without
a network).
