That doesn't solve the problem, though. Perhaps we're missing something when guessing what could be wrong. The updates are fine. I see nothing wrong with their dependencies and cannot reproduce the problem on FC5. The install of device-mapper also fixed the previously missing entries in the rpm database. So, if a manual update (with rpm -Uvh) of the two parted packages still fails, something else might be corrupted.
