Please file a bug bug in bugzilla and initially I'd file it against hal as it seems that it is asking your drive to do stuff it shouldn't be. That said the drive *should not* then lockup but a few seem to take offence. You may find that if you disable all the automatic drive polling for new CD/video/audio/etc that your box then behaves and this would be useful to check, as would what happens if you kill off hald-addon-storage Alan
