If you want a longer lifespan, then CentOS should be it in all but name.
You don't need to indirect through Ubuntu to understand the world.
Redhat stand behind RHEL for security updates for more than five years
per version. And because RHEL is built from other folks' stuff, by the
magic of FOSS licensing you can get it and the security updates for free
from, eg, http://centos.org
