In other words, do I have to rip out the board and the CPU, or just the CPU?
You have to change out the CPU, motherboard, and RAM. Only the Socket AM2 processors have the svm extension, which is a new socket and only supports DDR2 memory (no DDR support). So, yeah, it's not an simple, cheap upgrade, unfortunately. Jonathan
