I booted from the Fedora Core 6 Install CD 1. I entered the "linux rescue"
command. When I typed the "mkbootdisk" command, I received an error message
indicating that the command was not found. I used the find command to
search for it. However, I did not find the mkbootdisk script.

You can re-install grub using the rescue CD which should fix your problem
unless you want to do that another way.
You can build a boot cd using the rescue cd and the mkbootdisk script which
will build an iso file that you can burn.
