I just did a reinstall of core 6. Out of the box there is a problem
mounting usb drives. The 2.6.18-1.2868 kernel update works well. I did
have a problem recently when I booted to run level 3 and then used
startx to go to gui. If I either boot to run level 5 or change from
level 3 to level 5 at the command line (telinit 5)there is no problem.
Appears to be a number of sequencing issues that happen if one uses
startx at level 3 rather than switching to run level 5. I don't think
bug is the right term in this case but rather anomaly, I also found
other work arounds such as logging in at level 5 as root and then
logging off and logging in as user; works but not recommended.
