A lot of that depends on the laptop. I've heard some work well with
suspend, others don't. My Compaq absolutely SUCKS at suspend, so I tend
to not use that feature.  It's pretty sedentary most of the time anyway,
so it's not a problem for me.  Others have it work, but need tweaking to
make it stable.  Without more information, generalities is all I can
give you.
