Alan,

Thanks to your help the problem is solved.

The answer, found after trying many purmutations, is to use the kernel parameter

pci=noacpi

I am not quite sure why it works, but it does.

Thanks again.  Looking forward to the complete install this weekend.

The kernel tries several ways to get this information. It should always
make the right decision but you can use

	pci=conf1
	pci=conf2
	pci=bios

The following might be relevant if there is a weird bug but should not
matter

	pci=nommconf
	pci=noacpi
	pci=lastbus=254
