Of course, the disadvantage is that the backups require the same amount
of storage as the original files. Moving gigabytes over a network can be
time consuming as well.

I'm really surprised that dar isn't part of the Fedora repositories.
Most distros - including Red Hat - do supply it. Not a big deal. I'll
download the sources and compile it.
