Current versions of Gnome will be using gnome-screensaver - just the
same as kde uses it's own screensaver - even though you may have
xscreensaver installed. You could change that behaviour if you wanted by
disabling gnome-screensaver via (panel menu) System --> Preferences -->
Sessions. You could then add xscreensaver in it's place.
