not sure if you are having the same or related problem that I had with an Intel Motherboard. My system used the 82G965 video controller. The solution was to install the newest X drivers for the video controller. In order to do this you will need in addition to the standard development tools loaded: git-core (and/or???) git-clone (not sure if its both or one is incorrect) xorg-x11-server-sdk then get all three items from: http://intellinuxgraphics.org/download.html (the files are actually on freedesktop.org) I rebuilt all three, I believe Mesa first then DRM and lastly xf86-video-intel. NOTE: If your running x86_64 your libraries will be in /usr/lib64. This gave me a hard time as everything by default wants /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib so make sure you adjust the install scripts accordingly Once I installed the new driver I was able to run mplayer and realplayer, prior to this the X screen would go blank and randomly drawn garbage at the bottom of the screen. Good luck.
