I did a fresh install (not upgrade) on my FC4

to FC6 and my modem is not detected. It worked really well on FC4.

Is there a site that describes how to trouble
shoot
this?

Nothing about the modem shows up in dmesg and the
device does not show up when I look at the GUI "network" setup
application.

If anyone has a clue, I can provide more details.

Thanks for any assistance.

You can download scanModem.gz from

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/scanModem.gz
and run as root
# gunzip scanModem.gz
# ./scanModem

should return more information about your modem.
If the modem worked in FC4, it should also work in
FC6.

Antonio

The site from
http://archives.linmodems.org/24512

returns that the modem that you have supplied uses the
serial drivers. You may open a terminal and become
root user
# su -
Password: *****
# wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

should find the modem port ?, ttyS0, ..., ttyS4

The 11c1:0480 modems have a Venus controller chipset
1673JV7, using the
Linux serial drivers.

Hope this helps,

Antonio

I had high hopes but they were dashed :-)

# wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 9600 baud, next try: 115200 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- and failed too at 115200, giving up.
ttyS1<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 2400 baud, next try: 9600 baud
ttyS1<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 9600 baud, next try: 115200 baud
ttyS1<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- and failed too at 115200, giving up.

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Please read the FAQ at http://open.nit.ca/wvdial/

If you still have problems, send mail to wvdial-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I guess I'll have to look into setserial and the FAQ indicated.... Any hints or insight welcome.
