lost sound in FC6

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Greetings;

I had working sound this morning, but have rebooted several times testing
kernels today, but I'm currently back to the same FC6 kernel that had
working sound this morning. But now I'm living with nothing but the fan
noise.

Here is the /etc/modprobe.conf:
-----------------------
alias eth0 forcedeth
alias scsi_hostadapter sata_nv
alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1
options snd-card-0 index=0
options snd-emu10k1 index=0
remove snd-emu10k1 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 0 >/dev/null
2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-emu10k1
alias snd-card-1 snd-intel8x0
options snd-card-1 index=1
options snd-intel8x0 index=1
remove snd-intel8x0 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 1 >/dev/null
2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-intel8x0
alias snd-card-2 snd-mpu401
options snd-card-2 index=2
options snd-mpu401 index=2
remove snd-mpu401 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store 2 >/dev/null
2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-mpu401
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394
alias char-major-81-* videodev
-----------------
That was apparently auto generated by anaconda at install time, and it
actually got it right, the nvidia is the motherboard audio.

Now here is a 'cat /proc/asound/*'

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.12rc1 (Thu Jun 22
13:55:50 2006 UTC).
--------------------------

I have run alsamixer several times, and while I can get thumps in the
speakers occasionally as I switch or mute some things, no sound comes out
of the speaker when kscd is automaticly launched to play a regular cd.
And the audio splash that kde plays near the end of the kde init screen
time on screen is also silent. Nothing of note in the logs, nada, zip
except for some selinux mewling about fetchmail and procmail, its back to
permissive mode for obvious reasons.

There is also some sort of a bug (I think) in udev, because if there is an
audio cd in the drive when booted, the drive isn't accessable to anything
after the bootup. /dev/cdrom apparently doesn't exist then.
