Did ps -ef again. Here's what I got:
apache  1799   1  0  15:05 ? 00:00:00 httpd
apache  1801   1  0  15:05 ? 00:00:00 httpd

A LOT of these.

and when I did ls -l /proc/1801/exe:

lrwxrwxrwx   1 apache apache  0 Nov 16 15:05 /proc/1801/exe -> /usr/bin/perl

It looks like some kind of script is running.
