Hi I am editing some file for example vi test, when i presss insert button, I dont see -- INSERT -- at the bottom :-( #cat /etc/redhat-release Fedora Core release 4 (Stentz) Please let me know if you need any further assistance Thanks and Regards Kaushal
Can't help you other than say that it works here (and always has for the benefit of those who've pointed out that the o/p should be pressing "i" to insert text - pressing INSERT once puts it in insert mode, a second time for replace mode (and toggles back and forth from there). Does the INSERT key work but simply does not display the -- INSERT -- text at the bottom? Is vim still set up as alias for vi (either type alias and enter to view aliases, or which vi which will tell you that vim is the alias and where the binary for it is located)? Does it do this for other users? Can you create a new user and try it out?
