Your new interface with the new IP will be called like: eth0:1 for example. You can set up an alias using "ifconfig" using it like this way ifconfig eth0:1 192.168.1.45 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 up And then if you makes /sbin/ifconfig you will see your "new" interface.
