"screen resolution" problem

hai all,

this is my 1st post here. i installed FC-6 (x86) but it is running in
only "800x600" mode & it does not even show "1024x768" in
"Preferences->Screen Resolution" menu, where as i ran FC-4 in
"1024x768" mode. i also ran "BLAG Linux 50002" in "1024x768" mode. i
checked "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" file, it says "driver" is "via" where as
FC-4 used "vesa" driver for my motherboard.

Motherboard: ASUS K8V-MX running AMD 64 Athlon.
chipset: VIA K8M800, VIA VT8237R

i also added "Modes "1024x768" line in "xorg.conf" file but still it
does not work. then i changed the name of driver from "via" to "vesa"
& then on reboot all i get was Black Terminal :-(, NO GDM was there.
then i rolled back to "via" & it worked with "800x600". does anybody
have any idea how can i make my system to run in "1024x768" mode?

(800x600 shows way-way big icons, i can not even see my screen fully :-(

thanks
