I want to share a directory on my FC6 desktop computer just like I do when I run Winblows. I want anybody on my network to be able to read or write the files without a user name or password. I've set up the samba server and it appears to work correctly. But to make it work I have to set the shared directory to 777. I expected to have to set it to 666. Can anybody explain what is happening?
Permission of 666 equates to read, write permissions to all three user, group and others. But incase of a directory, execute permissions has to be given too so that users can "change into" that directory. Hence, 777 would be required.
