Hello Tim,
Thank you very much for pointing me to the right direction. It took me a while 
to absorb it. After further observation:
- Each directory entry takes 4 blocks (depends on filesystem formatting).
- The 'total' also counts for space taken by files, thus it also means the 
disk usage.
