Hi all,

Exploring fc6 and something strange is going on. I can't ssh in. When I enter "ssh -l mike test" I get a login prompt, enter my password, then nothing. If I look at the connection with tcpdump I see that the two hosts are communicating.

selinux is disabled.
iptables has been stopped.
ip6tables has been stopped.
Everything in /etc/xinetd.d is set disable = yes.

chkconfig --list sshd

    0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off

service sshd stop

    Stopping sshd [OK]

service sshd status

    sshd (pid 2205) is running

service sshd stop

    Stopping sshd [FAILED]

service sshd status

    sshd is stopped

service sshd start

error: Bind to port 22 on 0.0.0.0 failed. Address already in use.

OK, so I reboot....

service sshd status

    sshd (pid2205) is running

sshd is set NOT to run on bootup but something is starting it, but whatever it is won't accept the login.

aaaargh!!

Anybody know what's going on?

TIA,
Mike Wright
