I'm in a similar boat. I have installed and checked Sun java twice per
Stanton Finley's instructions. I don't have it listed in about:plugins
either.
Odd - I installed using SFs instructions, and it shows up in FF for me. Did
you make the link?

[root@moe ~]# rpm -qa --qf '%{name}\t%{arch}\n' 'firefox*'
firefox i386
firefox x86_64
Investigating now how to proceed.
