For anyone interseted, there's a small python script - Fonty Python - that makes links from external sources to your ~/.fonts dir, thus allowing you to create font sets. It's pretty simple, and hopefully will grow a full GUI sometime in the future. https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/fontypython When you have tens of thousands of fonts to deal with, font "sets" are indispensible - I'd like to see this functionality somehow tied to the font choosers presented within applications, but initial research suggests that this is a tall order...
