I have the same problem with my acer laptop, it seems that the acpi support in 2.6 kernel is at the moment a bit buggy, if a programmer reads this list, it would be greatly appreciated, that this got fixed, laptops under linux are at least 10 degrees of celsius above a windows installation...

ive had this problem not only with my own acer, but with other laptops too... not all though, so i think its a problem with the definitions of acpi devices...

i have an acer tm 250 btw.

In order to troubleshoot this - you'll first need to determine if this
is or is not a hardware issue. Is the cpu shutting down because of
overheating?

If not, which kernel can you use without problem? Then compare the boot
up parameters - between the working and non-working kernels. Sometimes a
kernel may fail to load a module. Often you'll find that some kernels
will work better with your system than others.             --------gary
