if the file is a true iso image it will not matter what the filename
extension is.  It is not standard for iso images to be named .bin, .cue,
etc., but is certainly possible.

in over 2 years I have never had k3b trash a disk.  If you have examples
of the problems and can recreate it I am sure the developers would like
to hear from you.
