Thanks for the advice, but when I logged on to try it, it was running at normal speeds once again! I don't why it was so slow... I tried many times to re-boot, and it always ran much slower! After a goodnight's rest, it is back to normal speed! Very strange!

cpuspeed, perhaps?  If your processor is capable of frequency scaling,
cpuspeed will adjust the speed based on load.

cat /proc/cpuinfo, note the speeds, then do "service cpuspeed stop"
and see if the speeds change.
