I've an idea I have set up spamassassin wrongly on my desktop, as there is now a long delay when I start my mail-reader (kmail under Fedora 5) - kmail reports that it is "initialising", and then the indicator at the bottom of the page goes slowly from 0% to 100%. I get mail from 2 sources: uucp mail arrives in /var/spool/mail/<user> and POP3 mail from gmail and other places. I've never been clear how procmail and spams/spamd actually work - in particular where exactly they intercept mail. At the end of my .procmailrc I have # SpamAssassin our way through :0fw | spamc In the kmail settings all my mail sources are set to be checked regularly - at intervals of 5-30 minutes, but it seems as though this does not have the desired effect, or maybe it only has an effect while kmail is running? I see the following spam-related programs are running on my desktop: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- [tim@alfred ~]$ ps aux | grep spam root 19986 0.0 5.6 30844 21820 ?
