I reported this bug against the kernel and davej at redhat dot com changed it to pm-utils.
Same here! With Dell Latitude D820, the only kernel that will suspend/resume is 2.6.16. Unfortunately, that one started locking up when the screensaver kicked in (I'm running the devel version of g-p-m), so I had to upgrade the kernel. So I don't even try to suspend. I'm told that a kernel update into the 2.7 or so era will correct this. -- Paul E.
