This is kde-3.3.0 here, and in the menu "accessories->more accessories->KCharSelect", one can cause the clicked on characters to be placed in the clipboard for pasteing into a message, so that I can now spell Jörg correctly even if it takes 20 seconds to maneuver the menu's and do it. The default display size is too small and I have to drag resize the window it opens larger, which in turn scales the windows contents up to fit and makes the font readable. For one character at a time, or even a whole word by clicking on the desired chars, its a workaround. Too bad this stuff doesn't Just Work(®) by pressing the alt key and the right key for the desired char like it did on the old amiga keyboards.
