A quick way is to remove xmms from the rpm database listing /var/lib/rpm. I don't know if rpm allows you to install a package without adding it to the rpm database. I have used midnight commander to extract files to /usr/local/ for certain programs that I don't want rpm to update or know about. On 9/2/06, Ferindo Middleton <ferindo.middleton@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:
I've uninstalled xmms from my system and went to www.xmms.org to reinstall the package using the rpm provided at the site so I can play mp3 files. How do I stop this package from being updated and overwritten during nightly yum updates so that I don't end up automatically going back to a fedora channel distribution that can't play mp3 files?
