I did find something on linux.com that may help a little. http://www.linux.com/howtos/IRC/servers.shtml > good linux and Win32 irc clients There are many good clients for both Linux and windows. Just a few of them for Linux can be found at the Linux App Finder pages, http://www.linuxappfinder.com/internetandnetworking/chat or from http://www.linux.com/howtos/IRC/xfree.shtml That linuxappfinder site doesn't list console based irc clients, such as bitchX ircII, but linux.com does at http://www.linux.com/howtos/IRC/console.shtml I personally use XChat (http://www.xchat.org) for irc on Linux. They also have ports for windows and Mac on their download page. Another very popular client (for windows only) is mIRC. It is not open source, and not free with a 30 day evaluation. Then it would cost you $20 (USD) to register it. There is also an extension to FireFox called ChatZilla that claims to be "A clean, easy to use and highly extensible Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client.". I haven't used it before, but seems like an interesting idea. You can get more info about it from http://chatzilla.hacksrus.com/ I think that you can also look into the SeaMonkey project (the fork of the full mozilla suite) as it comes with an IRC client, also called ChatZilla. Its address is http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/ > Web based IRC client I know of phpmychat from http://www.phpheaven.net/phpmychat:home but I haven't used it before. I know that there are also many java applets that would do this. Try checking out http://www.google.com/search?q=web+based+irc+client > preferrably for the Linux side, RPM based installs. I am not sure about the others, but I believe xChat and konversation (and probably several others) are included on the original installation media. You can also install them via yum install.
