Type $ cd .gnome2 [user@localhost .gnome2]$ ls you should see a session file. If you indeed see it, do the following [user@localhost .gnome2]$ cp session session.bak [user@localhost .gnome2]$ rm session [user@localhost .gnome2]$ exit Try again. Also Jim gave you great advice to check the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log. It should give you detailed information about the session(s).
