slapd sends query details to syslog; add the following to
/etc/syslog.conf to have ldap logs written to /var/log/ldaplogs:
# slapd logs to local4
local4.* /var/log/ldaplogs
You'll be able to see what the clients are doing in the logs, which
should help with debugging.

Thanks Tod,
Setting the disableIPv6 to true allowed firefox to work. So then I set it
back to false and changed my DSL modem dhcp settings to give out the ISP DNS
rather than just itself. This seems to have fixed the firefox networking
issues.
thanks for the help

OK, I'm struggling to find disks other than the brand that the burner is
unhappy with - new supply coming tomorrow - but assuming I can find one, what
command do you recommend to get the udf burn? I should also say that this
burner is not so new, and on the same-model burner that I have used a lot I
always use slow speed burning in k3b, so if it's possible to put a speed
limiter in, I would prefer to.

What specifically do you want to know about them? Does
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/i686> and <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/i386>
cover what you want to know?

Thanks for this Paul. The problem appears to be with the applications
themselves.
Kaddressbook does a full search as soon as it starts and works.
KMail doesn't even connect to the LDAP server, even when forced to used the
LDAP service.
Outlook Express only seems to do a search if you go into Address Book -> Find
People. It doesn't seem to want to just pull in the list as Kaddressbook does
Outlook 2002 looks like it wants to work properly, but refuses to set the
search base and ignores the values I put into the search base field in the
config window. It therefore doesn't recieve any hits.

Thanks Tom. In this case FC5 is the only OS on the box, and we're booting
from the raid array. Apparently Linux kernel 2.6.17.7 has just been
released. This is a production box (one of our DNS servers) so rather
than fool around with 2.6.17-1.2157_FC5smp any more I'll wait for the new
kernel to show up in yum and see what happens with that.

As a side note, other processes on your machine can normally see your command
line and so putting passwords on the command line when running any program
is a bad idea if you don't trust all of the process running on your machine.

Maybe you should try swapping drives between the box that works and the one
that does not. Maybe it is a hardware problem or maybe the drives have
different versions of firmware.

Hi Anne,
I suspect that the problem may have nothing to do with the media or the
way you are executing the growisofs or cdrecord commands. I encountered
the same problems not too long ago, and it turned out to be my DVD drive
that was causing all the problems. I hadn't used the drive in slightly
over a year, and when I tried to burn a DVD on it a couple months ago, I
was getting no medium found, insufficient space error messages, etc.
Almost exactly the same problems you are facing now. I'm not sure if
cleaning the drive is any good. As one list member suggested, as a last
"test" I had taken a hammer to the drive, for wasting more than a week
of my time, the last three DVD disks (coasters now) that I had, and
worst of all, making me doubt the evidence of my eyes. Rather than carry
on experimenting, I'd actually recommend that you buy a new drive -- it
may save your sanity!
