I own the same motherboard, which I use as a development system, and FC5 installs and works fine. What is the BSOD you are seeing? Could it have something to do with the CD media, rather than the motherboard? I think installing windows would be a good idea to remove the possibility that it could be a hardware problem. But I would not update the BIOS just yet.
Actually, I'd recommend just the opposite. This sounds like a BIOS bug to me.
