If I understand you're post. FC5 is your host OS and you're running XP
as a guest in VMWare. Stop the guest OS and try adding these lines to
your [guest os].vsx file:
usb.present = "TRUE"
usb.autoConnect.device0 = ""

Restart guest OS.
