It's source code -- it's on the source images with the rest of the source. There's a fair amount of pressure to keep the size of the images down (so you don't need twenty CDs to install), and it was felt that people who needed the full source code would both be likely to want an updated version, and be capable of downloading what they want for themselves. You don't need the kernel source to compile modules (probably the main use of the old kernel source package) -- see the release notes. > And the installer . Why the package selection section has become this poor > in FC5 ? It's a *bit* of a work-in-progress. The installer now uses yum to install packages, which will in the future allow you to install stuff from Extras at install time, and possibly grab the latest version of a package rather than what's on the CD. There have been a *lot* of flame-wars over this, on this list, the fedora-devel list, and elsewhere. See, for example: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=186007 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=183871 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=185161 http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2006-April/msg00650.html http://www.redhat.com/archives/rhl-devel-list/2005-November/msg00844.html http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2006-May/msg01493.html I would imagine that most arguments have already been made somewhere in that lot. Please don't try to renew the argument -- most people on this list are sick of the subject.
