You do not have time to answer them all, so you answer the ones from people you know first, and then you answer the ones that interest you from the rest. If you tried to answer every e-mail, you would not have time to do anything else. Unless you are paying for there time, you have no right to expect people to give you some of it. You may ask for it, but they are under no obligation to give it to you. This is especially true when you send a message to their e-mail address instead of asking on a mailing list. But even on a mailing list, you should not expect a specific person to respond. Another thing to keep in mind is that a lot of people run mail filters. If the message is not from someone they know, and is not from a mailing list they are subscribed to, the message may sit for a long time before it even gets looked at. This is especially true e-mail addresses for addressed posted on web sites, or used on mailing lists. After all, most of the messages that don't match any of the filtering rules are going to be SPAM anyway.
