OK, I apologize. There are so many threads on the Internet about your issue, about another issue regarding KDE's kscreensaver (KDE 3.5.3) being broken, and others about the behavior (lock or not lock root, that's the question) between gnome-screensaver, xscreensaver and kscreensaver.
