What do you have as /etc/httpd/logs ?
# ls -ld /etc/httpd/logs
Did the "mv logs logs.old" not get it out of the way?
And you still didn't say where you got that httpd.conf file from...

Yes it did move it have done it again and now logs is not found
The error is unpacking archive where does the archive come from ??
I thought the bad config file came from a download of apache .2 from
the Apache www site
