it's part of yum's "installonlyn" plugin.
cat /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/installonlyn.conf
[main]
tokeep = 4
enabled = 1
i.e. keep 4 previous kernels around. :)

My enabled = 0 is now a 1, and tokeep was already at 5.
Does this effect stuffs other than the kernel now with enabled = 1?
