Sounds neat.

Have you checked freshmeat.net?  Someone may have written something
already.

Also, check out linuxprinting.org.  There are a number of mailing lists
you can subscribe to; one of them might be generic enough where you can
ask this question, and hopefully someone more knowledgeable will reply.
