Given the other results you've posted to the list, I think you may be okay between the router and the NIC. I have an older DSL modem that uses different settings, but considering that you have auto-negotiation on, I would think that your settings are probably okay. You could google for the manual for your cable modem and see what settings it prefers for the ethernet port and see if that's what you have. But, I'd suggest following Joanne's advice (jdow) on using ping. She writes device drivers and probably knows what she's talking about. :) -Roger
Thanks, Roger. I so did, and got an interesting result. You can see that as I work my way out, the ping time gets slowly longer, but on the last one, it jumps from ~13 ms to ~88 ms. Does that seem unusual, or is because it's going across a large way? I did ping a .co.il (my country's domain extension) address, but that does not necessarily mean that the site is hosted here. traceroute: Warning: google.co.il has multiple addresses; using 216.239.37.99 traceroute to google.co.il (216.239.37.99), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 192.168.123.254 (192.168.123.254) 0.656 ms 0.727 ms 0.443 ms 2 c1.actcom.co.il (192.114.47.218) 11.318 ms 10.208 ms 9.154 ms 3 rtr76.actcom.co.il (192.114.47.250) 10.096 ms 17.469 ms 8.018 ms 4 nv-act.ser.netvision.net.il (199.203.173.126) 14.279 ms 12.589 ms 11.864 ms 5 gi1-0.core1.hfa.nv.net.il (212.143.8.1) 15.324 ms 15.684 ms * 6 pos2-10.brdr1.lnd.nv.net.il (212.143.12.122) 88.808 ms 87.282 ms $ ping -c 8 192.114.47.218 PING 192.114.47.218 (192.114.47.218) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 192.114.47.218: icmp_seq=1 ttl=63 time=14.7 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.218: icmp_seq=2 ttl=63 time=19.2 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.218: icmp_seq=3 ttl=63 time=9.11 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.218: icmp_seq=4 ttl=63 time=10.7 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.218: icmp_seq=5 ttl=63 time=12.0 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.218: icmp_seq=6 ttl=63 time=9.92 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.218: icmp_seq=7 ttl=63 time=8.49 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.218: icmp_seq=8 ttl=63 time=11.4 ms --- 192.114.47.218 ping statistics --- 8 packets transmitted, 8 received, 0% packet loss, time 7026ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 8.496/11.982/19.286/3.309 ms $ ping -c 8 192.114.47.250 PING 192.114.47.250 (192.114.47.250) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 192.114.47.250: icmp_seq=1 ttl=253 time=10.0 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.250: icmp_seq=2 ttl=253 time=10.9 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.250: icmp_seq=3 ttl=253 time=8.68 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.250: icmp_seq=4 ttl=253 time=11.6 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.250: icmp_seq=5 ttl=253 time=11.5 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.250: icmp_seq=6 ttl=253 time=16.7 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.250: icmp_seq=7 ttl=253 time=230 ms 64 bytes from 192.114.47.250: icmp_seq=8 ttl=253 time=235 ms --- 192.114.47.250 ping statistics --- 8 packets transmitted, 8 received, 0% packet loss, time 7029ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 8.687/66.919/235.626/95.825 ms $ ping -c 8 199.203.173.126 PING 199.203.173.126 (199.203.173.126) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 199.203.173.126: icmp_seq=1 ttl=252 time=13.1 ms 64 bytes from 199.203.173.126: icmp_seq=2 ttl=252 time=13.5 ms 64 bytes from 199.203.173.126: icmp_seq=3 ttl=252 time=13.6 ms 64 bytes from 199.203.173.126: icmp_seq=4 ttl=252 time=16.4 ms 64 bytes from 199.203.173.126: icmp_seq=5 ttl=252 time=14.0 ms 64 bytes from 199.203.173.126: icmp_seq=6 ttl=252 time=14.4 ms 64 bytes from 199.203.173.126: icmp_seq=7 ttl=252 time=11.6 ms 64 bytes from 199.203.173.126: icmp_seq=8 ttl=252 time=13.8 ms --- 199.203.173.126 ping statistics --- 8 packets transmitted, 8 received, 0% packet loss, time 7032ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 11.650/13.842/16.442/1.257 ms $ ping -c 8 212.143.8.1 PING 212.143.8.1 (212.143.8.1) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 212.143.8.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=251 time=11.8 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.8.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=251 time=13.6 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.8.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=251 time=12.0 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.8.1: icmp_seq=4 ttl=251 time=16.1 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.8.1: icmp_seq=5 ttl=251 time=16.5 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.8.1: icmp_seq=6 ttl=251 time=14.0 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.8.1: icmp_seq=7 ttl=251 time=14.4 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.8.1: icmp_seq=8 ttl=251 time=13.0 ms --- 212.143.8.1 ping statistics --- 8 packets transmitted, 8 received, 0% packet loss, time 7035ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 11.841/13.971/16.545/1.624 ms $ ping -c 8 212.143.12.122 PING 212.143.12.122 (212.143.12.122) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 212.143.12.122: icmp_seq=1 ttl=250 time=89.9 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.12.122: icmp_seq=2 ttl=250 time=88.6 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.12.122: icmp_seq=3 ttl=250 time=89.4 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.12.122: icmp_seq=4 ttl=250 time=87.2 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.12.122: icmp_seq=5 ttl=250 time=88.1 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.12.122: icmp_seq=6 ttl=250 time=91.2 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.12.122: icmp_seq=7 ttl=250 time=87.6 ms 64 bytes from 212.143.12.122: icmp_seq=8 ttl=250 time=86.9 ms --- 212.143.12.122 ping statistics --- 8 packets transmitted, 8 received, 0% packet loss, time 7036ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 86.991/88.668/91.267/1.409 ms $ Dotan Cohen http://what-is-what.com -- fedora-list mailing list fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe: https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list
