To the best of my knowledge there are no PHP features that are not
available through FC rpms. I have gone through the aggravation of
compiling the whole thing (MySQL, PHP and Apache) from source with
i686 and Pentium 4 flags. I accomplished nothing other than some
addition wear and tear on my keyboard and hard drives. 

The whole thing is running flawlessly on my website which is all PHP
and has quite a bit of dynamic content.
