If you want to switch to text console, just press "Ctrl-Alt-F1 /
F2 ... /F6"
If you want to switch back to graphics console, press: "Ctrl-Alt-F7"

If you want to start you FC4 in Text mode only, either:
A. When grub starts, select "Edit" (e), add 3 to the command line and
then Boot (b).
Or.
B. Edit the /etc/inittab file; replace the "id:5:initdefault:" with
"id:3:initdefault:"
