The first suggestion works, but the second does not:

   LIBS = -Wl,--as-needed -lrt -lssl -Wl,--no-as-needed

   $(TARGET): $(OBJS)
      gcc -shared $(CPPFLAGS) -o $(TARGET) $(OBJS) $(LIBS)

Wherein do I err?
