Try to add Modeline:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier   "Monitor0"
        ModelName    "Unknown monitor"
        ModeLine     "1280x800" 83.5 1280 1344 1480 1680 800 801 804 828 -hsync +vsync
        Option      "dpms"
EndSection

And then:

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device     "Videocard0"
        Monitor    "Monitor0"
        DefaultDepth     24
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport   0 0
                Depth     24
                Modes    "1280x800"
        EndSubSection
EndSection

Hello all,

I'm installing in VMWare on a Sony Vaio notebook and so far, all is
working very well, better than I expected.

My only snag is that I need to get X to run at 1280x800 instead of
1280x960.  I set the monitor as a Generic LCD at 1280x800 but still that
is not an option on the resolution list; it still wants to do 1280x960.
What do I need to set in my xorg.conf to recognize 1280x800?

Thanks,

:b!
