You can configure samba to use WINS - and smbclient will pick
up those settings - not sure about cifs mount attempts.  However
he is interested in connecting via rdesktop which I don't
think has any concept of WINS or netbios names.  He really
needs to get the names from DNS - and they might be there
if he finds the right dns server.
