Cut/copy and paste in an application such as evolution or OO is easily done within that same or another similar app with the typical keys [Ctrl-C, Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V]. In these apps the key mapping is done within the app, and that mapping is not (and for ctrl-C cannot be) done in the text screen. The only real place I routinely see that this does not work is within a text screen where the mouse must be used to select then paste into the same/another window. BTW, within a gnome terminal window, the keys ctrl-shift-C and ctrl-shift-V are used to copy/paste in addition to using the mouse.
