The 0.9.0-23 packages are the finally release madwifi. This is what
was once called madwifi-ng, but this name is deprecated by the
developers since it's not "new", but the current version.

As kismet tells you, you need to configure it now differently than
before, e.g. with the "madwifi-ng" interface.

Before using kismet I would check the instructions on madwifi.org on
how to setup a simple wireless connection with madwifi(-ng). Once this
is running you could attack the kismet setup.
